11/28/2023 0 Comments Bvckup 2 portable file pathIt uses delta copying to update file modified between the backup runs, so that it copied only modified blocks of files. It merely copies things from A to B, as is, and it is exceedingly good at it.ġ. It is not a all-in-one backup tool, it doesn't compress things, it doesn't FTP or encrypt files nor does it have a restore function. It's not a system backup, it doesn't create a system image that can be used to restore a bootable system after a failure. If you are currently doing your backups by copying files from your primary machine to an external drive or a NAS, the app will help you do it better, faster and in altogether more pleasant format. Really like the software - simple, clean, and a straight forward copying. It's a simple data backup software that is meant for mirroring directories. Then just skim through the log, see if what it's planning to do is reasonable and go from there. This will run the job through all the prep stages, dump the backup plain into the log and stop. So in your case you can try and set up a new job, as close to how it's been in your original setup, set it to Manual mode (Backup When section) and then run Simulate command from the right-click menu in main window. It will just quickly go through them and reset their "created" timestamps (because these are set to current time when a file is copied using conventional methods). For example, if you just copy-paste a folder with lots of data from A to B, then you can create a Bvckup2 job for A => B and it will not re-copy the files. The app can "take over" existing backups. I typically backed up entire drives with a few folder exceptions. Is there a way to "re-connect" Bvckup 2 to the backup folders and to the source. And thank for the thumbs up, much appreciated. You can also do a dry run of this - disable all jobs, do the export, deploy on new machine and then use Simulate command from the right-click menu of each backup to see what would happen if it ran. On the first run the app will scan the source and the backup and since they are already in sync, it won't do anything. If you don't need that, then just export the settings and deploy them on a new machine. However that's needed only if you want to preserve the delta copying state. If you are running in service mode, then first switch it back to desktop mode, move the config and switch back to the service mode on new machine. Packing up is optional, but there's lot of files there, so creating them as a. This is just a matter of packing up and moving entire configuration folder: What i would like to do is "move" also the existing indexes of all sources and targets. Otherwise the copying of ~5Tb of data would take too long, and i have only about 1 hour for the change.Ĭould you please advise me how to do that ? Problem is, that i do not how to "tell to new BVCKUP" that all the files/folders in targets are already synced as they should - since the "old BVCKUP already did that" What i will do is ,that i will turn off old PC and immediately start using new PC. what i would like to do is "move" also the existing indexes of all sources and targets. I have already tried before (on other PC ,other installation, independent from this) to move the license with settings. Some of them have full copy of source, some of them have some rules set up the "backups" are located on 17 other PCs(network locations). The files which are being backup-ed are located on network drive, and its about 500Gb of data (more then 1 000 000 files) I have BVCKUP on PC, which OS (windows server 2012) is currently dying I have tried lots of other-similar SW before, and none of them worked as smooth as yours. First of all i would like to thank you for this amazing SW, which is actually working perfect.
